Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about using WeatherLens for travel planning

WeatherLens uses 30 years of historical climate data from major meteorological agencies to calculate monthly averages for temperature, rainfall, humidity, and sunshine hours. The "best time" recommendation combines these factors with a travel comfort index that weights pleasant temperatures (20–28°C), low rainfall probability, and moderate humidity.
WeatherLens aggregates data from OpenWeatherMap, NOAA's Global Historical Climatology Network, and ERA5 reanalysis data from the Copernicus Climate Change Service. Current conditions are updated every 3 hours via the OpenWeatherMap API.
Yes. WeatherLens lets you compare up to 4 destinations side-by-side. Start with two cities and tap “+ Add destination” to bring in a third or fourth. Every slot works with our featured destinations or any city worldwide (using live weather). The unified chart, best-time recommendation, and summary cards all scale to show up to 4 cities together.
The daily budget figure is a mid-range, per-person estimate in USD. It covers a 3–4 star hotel (double occupancy), three meals (mix of casual and sit-down restaurants), local transport plus occasional taxi/rideshare, and one paid attraction or activity per day. It excludes flights and travel insurance. Values are aggregated from Budget Your Trip averages, Numbeo cost-of-living data, and tourism board reports for 2025–2026. Tier key: $ under $50 (budget), $$ $50–100 (moderate), $$$ $100–200 (mid-to-upper), $$$$ $200+ (high-end).
WeatherLens supports both Celsius and Fahrenheit. Use the unit toggle at the top of the comparison results to switch between °C and °F. Your preference is remembered for future visits.
Monthly averages are calculated from 30 years of historical data (1991–2020 climate normals), which is the standard period used by the World Meteorological Organization. While individual years may vary, these averages provide a reliable baseline for travel planning.
The best time to visit Bali is during the dry season from April to October, with June to September being ideal. Expect temperatures around 27–30°C, low humidity, and minimal rainfall. The wet season (November to March) sees heavy tropical downpours but is still warm.
The best times to visit Tokyo are spring (March–May) for cherry blossom season with mild 15–22°C temperatures, and autumn (October–November) for vibrant foliage and comfortable 15–20°C weather. Avoid the rainy season in June–July and the hot, humid August.
The travel comfort score (0–100) combines: temperature comfort (40% weight — optimal 20–28°C), rainfall probability (25% weight — fewer rainy days score higher), humidity (20% weight — 40–60% is ideal), and sunshine hours (15% weight — more sun scores higher). A score above 75 indicates excellent travel conditions.
